U.S. ARMY 207TH AVIATION REGIMENT UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 207th Aviation Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved with an effective date of 1 June 1988. Ultramarine blue is the primary color of Army Aviation (golden orange is secondary) and is used for the background of the shield portion of the insignia; a similar shade of blue is also used on the flag of Alaska, the unit’s home state, along with yellow similar to that used here.

Wavy but pointed indentations dividing the blue from the yellow (rayonné division) serve as an allusion to the aurora borealis, the dancing lights in the sky that are a common sight in the Regiment’s home state of Alaska. Above the rayonné division, a lone star represents the North Star (also called a polestar); it too is found on the Alaskan state flag, and is a symbol of guidance, leadership, and command. The eagle in the center, with its talons extended and wings swept back as it approaches its prey, is symbolic of vigilance (eagles have extraordinary eyesight), strength, and aerial prowess. “Flying To The Future” is the Regimental motto.

As of Autumn 2023, the 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment is assigned to the Alaska Army National Guard. Its aviation assets consist of three types of helicopters (CH-47 Chinook, UH-60 Black Hawk, and UH-72 Lakota) and a single fixed-wing aircraft (C-12 Huron).

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
