Just as in the 21st Signal Brigade’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia - Military Operations in Hostile Conditions (SSI-MOHC), a sword is the focal point in the unit's Distinctive Unit Insignia. Here, lightning flashes flank both sides of the sword as a representation of the vital role that Signals play in support of all stripes of military missions. Fittingly, the motto “Edge Of The Sword” is wrapped around the blade, emphasizing the importance the brigade places on its efforts to aid warfighters in delivering a fast, quick blow to any enemy combatants. In keeping with the sword imagery, the Brigade has the official Special Designation "Razor Sharp."
Guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
