U.S. ARMY 210TH REGIMENT UNIT CREST (DUI)

“We Train All,” the motto inscribed on a scroll at the base of the 210th Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia, reflects the unit’s assignment to staff and operate the Virgin Island National Guard’s Regional Training Institute. Like other Regional Training Institutes in the National Guard, the 210th provides advanced training in Military Occupational Specialties to students drawn from all Army components (Active, National Guard, Reserve).

The insignia was authorized on 11 June 1998 and features a chevron—a standard symbol of support in heraldry—in the center of a shield. A trio of scallop shells stands for three Army branches, while the light blue background evokes the azure waters of the Caribbean Sea surrounding the islands. The shells also symbolize pilgrims and allude to the story of St. Ursula, who was beheaded along with 1100 virgins (or 11,000, depending the source) for whom Columbus named the Virgin Islands.

In April 2020, plans to convert the Regional Training Institute into an alternate treatment facility for COVID-19 patients were announced, but the projected numbers of critically ill people that would have justified the expenditure and work never materialized.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
