Approved 6 April 2005, the 213th Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia—also called a unit crest or a DUI—features a shield divided by a ridge of a mountains into upper and lower halves, with the upper half containing a canton (inset). The ridge stands for the Grand Tetons, a world-famous 40-mile mountain range that overlooks Jackson Hole, and the bucking bronco superimposed on the mountains in the lower half alludes to the spirit and fortitude of both Soldiers and settlers of the region (it is also the logo of University of Wyoming athletic teams).
In the upper half, blue is a reference to the Infantry roots of the Officer Candidate School hosted by the Wyoming National Guard Regional Training Institute administered by the Regiment. Crossed cannons in the canton recall the 1st Battalion’s designation as a Field Artillery unit, and the torch for the enlightenment of knowledge that both NCOs and Officers receive at the Institute. DISCIPLINA BELLO, the unit motto, translates as “Beautiful Discipline.”
Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
