As a unit in the Louisiana Army National Guard, the 225th Engineer Brigade is capable of providing support in both combat settings and in civilian projects ranging from the construction, maintenance, and repair of infrastructure to assisting in emergency response efforts. Although the entire Brigade has not been deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan to support the Global War on Terror, elements from subordinate battalions have been deployed to the region on several occasions.
The 769th Engineer Battalion, for example, deployed to Bagram in Afghanistan in 2002, and then in 2007 it sent 500 Soldiers to Iraq in 2007 and earned official credit for participation in the Iraqi Surge campaign. The 527th Engineer Battalion also sent personnel to Bagram Air Field (January 2003), and in 2011 the Battalion’s 1022nd Vertical Engineer Company was sent to Afghanistan to build troop bases throughout the country. And in 2016, the 528th Engineer Battalion deployed over 150 Soldiers to Kuwait to carry out vertical and horizontal engineering and construction projects in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The subdued version of the 225th Engineer Brigade unit patch, or Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, is manufactured for wear with uniforms made with either the discontinued Universal Camouflage Pattern or the Operational Camouflage Pattern introduced to replace it i in 2015, while the color version is worn on the Army Green Service Uniform and is used as the basis for the 225th Engineer Brigade Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB). The unit motto, “Confectio,” means “Accomplishment” and is found on the 225th Engineer Brigade unit crest.
