U.S. ARMY 250TH FORWARD SURGICAL TEAM BERET FLASH AND/OR OVAL

The 250th Forward Surgical Team (Airborne) organizational flash and oval, or Airborne background trimming, was approved on 16 March 2004. Today, the unit is known as the 250th Forward Resuscitative Surgical Team, but it is not clear if it has retained the Airborne designation of its forebear; as the 260th Forward Surgical Team, the unit was the first Forward Surgical Team to participate in an Airborne Assault Landing. The immediate parent organization of the 250th Forward Resuscitative Surgical Team is the 47th Combat Support Hospital, which is assigned to the 62nd Medical Brigade. The 250th FRST is located at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington.

A unit flash is worn on the colored beret authorized for that category of unit, which in this case is a maroon beret for Airborne units (other colors include green for Special Forces, tan for Rangers, and brown for Security Assistance Command). Officers center their nonsubdued rank insignia on the flash, which is itself centered on the beret stiffener, while Enlisted in the Team wear their Regimental Distinctive Unit Insignia since the unit has not been approved a Distinctive Unit Insignia.

The oval is won only by members of the team who have earned an Air Assault or Parachutist badge, with the badge centered on the oval before being placed on an authorized uniform garment. Considered a single device when worn together, the oval and badge count as a single item for wear and placement purposes.

Wear guidance for the flash and oval alike can be found in subsections (a) and (b) and of Chapter 21-32 of the January 2022 edition of DA PAM 670-1, while rules on oval-badge placement are located in in Chapter 22-16, subsection (b) of the same manual.
