A Military Police and Administrative unit for the first 18 years of it existence, the 28th Finance Management Support Unit is a subordinate of the 728th Combat Support Sustainment Battalion, 213th Regional Support Group in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. It is headquartered in Lebanon and has four subordinate units: the 528th, 628th, 828th, and 928th Finance Detachments. The unit has made numerous overseas deployments to support the War on Terrorism, clocking in with a full dozen year-long tours between 2001 and 2015.
The unit was originally organized as Company C, 165th Military Police Battalion at Lebanon on 4 November 1953, a designation it carried until nearly a decade later when it became the 28th Military Police Company on 1 April 1963; two years later it was redesignated the 28th Administrative Company. It was finally designated as a unit in the Finance Corps in December 1971 when it became the 28th Finance Company and was assigned to the 28th Infantry Division’s Division Support Command (DISCOM).
It was reorganized as the 28th Finance Support Unit I January 1989 and assigned to the 213th Area Support Group, predecessor of today’s 213th Regional Support Group. After returning from a deployment in support of Operation Desert Storm, the unit was redesignated the 28th Finance Battalion in 1993 and assigned the same four Finance detachments it has to this day. It’s unclear when it was given its current designation of Finance Management Support Unit.
