U.S. ARMY 287TH SUSTAINMENT BRIGADE UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 287th Sustainment Brigade Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 19 December 2006, fifteen months after the Brigade was activated at Wichita, Kansas. A badge-style shield implies support, and the light-blue and silver quadrants respectively denote a close association with the Maintenance branch and teamwork and solidarity in executing 24/7 vigilance.

A compass rose in the center connotes readiness for deployment to location worldwide; the four primary points on the compass represent Supply, Maintenance, Medical, and Transportation capabilities of he Brigade. The Brigade’s home state of Kansas is symbolized with a stylized sunflower, recalling the contributions of Kansans down through the decades in defending treasured freedoms and liberties. “Sustain The Victor” is not only a motto, but also a de facto assessment of the importance of Sustainment in achieving success; the black used for the scroll is a testament to the Brigade’s solidarity and strength.

Activated in September 2005, the 287th Sustainment Brigade was a unit in the Kansas Army National Guard headquartered at Wichita, Kansas. It deployed to Iraq in the Fall of 2008 and in 2013 its selection for a Meritorious Unit Commendation for the Logistical support it provided U.S. and Coalition troops was confirmed in Army General Order 2013-79. It was inactivated in May 2016.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all the unit's Soldiers (except General Officers) centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. For Enlisted personnel, the insignia is centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the AGSU shoulder loops center the insignia by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

The DUI is also worn on the shoulder loops of the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU) that completely replaced the old green Army Service Uniform as of 1 October 2015 (though DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either the AGSU or the ASU).

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1
, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
