U.S. ARMY 30TH ADJUTANT GENERAL BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 30th Adjutant General Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (also referred to as a unit crest or DUI for short) was approved for wear on 23 September 1987, less than a month after it had been given the designation of 30th Adjutant General Battalion (Reception) and was activated at the U.S. Army Infantry Training Center at Fort Benning, Georgia.

The blue saltire behind a Roman helmet was adapted from the state flag of Georgia the time the insignia was approved (that flag was discontinued in 2001 and has been replaced twice over) and represents the unit’s location; a saltire is also a heraldic symbol of strength and support. A Roman helmet is used to denote the unit's participation in the Rome-Arno campaign of World War, as well as to symbolize the unit's task of preparing Soldiers to meet challenges while reinforcing the unit’s personal motto of "Meeting The Challenge."

Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Constituted originally in the Army of the United States as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 30th Replacement Battalion on 1 November 1942, the 30th Adjutant General Battalion (Reception) was deployed as a replacement unit in Algeria in June 1943, with its original mission being the processing of Soldiers returning from hospitals to unit as well as fresh combat replacement troops. It eventually relocated to Naples, Italy in March 1944, and from the following October until March 1945 it processed rotation personnel.

Inactivated on 1 December 1945, the Battalion was reactivated 25 April 1963 at Fort Benning, Georgia and began to receive, process, and send Soldiers to Initial Entry Training. In 1987, it was redesignated under its current title and activated as a component of the U.S. Army Infantry Training Center at Fort Benning, which was redesignated as Fort Moore on 27 October 2023. Today, it is one of four Reception Battalions still active and is the only one that receives and prepares personnel for both Basic Combat Training and One Station Unit Training (Infantry and Armor personnel).

As of Autumn 2023, the Battalion is assigned to the 194th Armored Brigade.
