Assigned to the 353rd Civil Affairs Command, the 304th Civil Affairs Brigade is an U.S. Army Reserve unit headquartered in Bristol, Pennsylvania. Originally activated on 1 March 1949 as the 304th Military Government Group in the Organized Reserve (Army Reserve after 1952), the unit underwent several redesignations before receiving its current title in 1992.
The Brigade has been called into active Federal service on several occasions since 1990, earning credit for participation in two of three Southwest Asia conflict campaigns and at least one for the War on Terrorism. Unit decorations include a Navy Presidential Unit Citation for service in Iraq in 2003 and two Meritorious Unit Commendation, the most recent for its service from 14 June2008 to 21 April 2009 in Iraq.
The 304th Civil Affairs Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia was approved for wear on 5 March 1993 and features a lit torch atop the Liberty Bell that symbolizes guidance, leadership, and freedom. The Bell also is a symbol of Philadelphia, site of the Brigade’s activation for service Gold coloration of the bell indicate excellent performance and achievement, while the purple and white are colors of Civil Affair branch.
