Commonly called a unit crest or DUI for short, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 316th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) was approved on 11 January 2007, some eight months before it was activated under that name at the Pittsburgh suburb of Coraopolis, and its design reflects the unit’s new location and responsibilities.
In the middle of the insignia is a buff-colored triangle; the color is one long associated with Sustainment units, and the triangle signifies both solidarity and support. It is also a reference to the Tri-State area in which Pittsburgh is located. The blue wavy lines simulate the flowing together of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers to form the Ohio at the city of Pittsburgh, close to the unit’s headquarters at Coraopolis. A compass rose indicates the capability of the Command to deliver its support anywhere in the world at any time, while the laurel wreath symbolizes victory that is the goal in the motto, "Sustain The Victory."
Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e),
"Beret" and "Garrison Cap" respectively.
