Originally constituted as the 101st HQ and HQ Detach-ment, Military Government Group on 25 August 1945 in the regular Army, the 321st Civil Affairs Brigade was allotted to the Army Reserve in 1955 an would serve under three different designations before receiving its current designation on 16 September 1992. Since that time, the Brigade has had some of its element ordered into active military service in January 1995, May-June 1996, November-December 1997, and April 2005, with its Headquarters and Headquarters Company receiving the military call between March-June 2003. It is currently headquartered at Fort Sam Houston in Houston, Texas.
The 321st Civil Affairs Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patch, was approved on 4 March 1993. In the color version, purple and white are used in the design to reflect the organization’s affiliation with the Civil Affairs / Psychological Operations branch of the Army. The golden tint of the sword is found in the insignia’s center stands for excellence and achievement. Note that the sword is semi-sheathed and point down; this reflects the Brigade’s mission and the Unit’s readiness to work toward achieving this mission goal even when hostilities have not yet been brought to halt.
