The 327th Signal Battalion organizational flash (just “flash” for short) is worn centered on the stiffener of the maroon beret, with the beret’s color denoting the Battalion’s Airborne status. Non-subdued insignia of rank is worn centered on the flash by Officers, while NCOs and Junior Enlisted Soldiers wear the 327th Signal Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, or unit crest.
Background trimming, or oval, is placed beneath any Parachutist or Air Assault badge authorized for the wearer, with the entire badge (except the star or star-and-wreath of Senior and Master Parachutist badges). The combination of oval-and-badge is worn on the coats of Service Uniforms (AGSU and ASU, including the ASU Dress variation), Service Uniform shirts, and the green or blue Army Maternity Tunic (for Female Soldiers).
Although the 327th Signal Battalion’s battle honors include campaigns from both World War II and Vietnam, these were earned by two Signal Companies (416th and 221st) before they were designated as the Battalion’s A and B Companies in a 1980 reorganization and redesignation.
Following that change, the Battalion took part in two campaigns in the Persian Gulf War of 1990-1991, and also earned a Meritorious Unit Commendation for its service between November 2004 and November 2005 providing communication support for U.S. and Coalition Forces of the Coalition Forces Land Component Command, Multi-National Force-Iraq, and Multi-National Corps-Iraq.
The Battalion was inactivated in 2007.
