The 341st Military Intelligence Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 23 January 1990 but was amended to correct the description of the crest on 3 May 1991 and again on 18 June 1991 to correct the description of the shield. On 11 December 2006 it was amended a third and final time to correct the description of the shield portion of the insignia.
Oriental blue and silver gray, branch colors of the Military Intelligence Corps, are used for the two halves of the shield created by the diagonal lightning flash, which is a symbol of swift action and accurate. The Rosetta Stone (upper right) denotes the organization’s role as a linguistics intelligence Battalion, while the book and quill in the lower left are emblems of knowledge; the addition of the sword reflects the unit’s combat role. VIGILANTIA ET VALOR is the unit motto.
Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and
"Garrison Cap," respectively.
