The 351st Civil Affairs Command Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patch, was approved on 11 April 1977 while the unit was still designated as the 351st Civil Affairs Area. The color version of the insignia, worn today on the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and prior to 2015 on the Army Green Uniform, features a prominent use of purple and white to reflect the organization’s status as a Civil Affairs unit.
At the top of the insignia is a simulated wall symbolizing cities and civilization; taken together with the torch, scroll, and sword, it implies the Civil Affairs mission of the unit. Yellow (gold) is the color of excellence. The torch is also an allusion to the Statue of Liberty and is inspired by the unit motto, “Born Of Freedom.”
Based in Mountain View, California, the 351t Civil Affairs Command is one of only four Civil Affairs Commands in the Army.
