U.S. ARMY 364TH EXPEDITIONARY SUSTAINMENT COMMAND UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 364th Expeditionary Sustain Command Distinctive Unit Insignia, or unit crest, was approved originally for the 364th General Support Group in 1971. It was redesignated for the 364th Support Group a year later, and then again in 2009 when the unit was redesignated as the 364th Sustainment Command.

A masoned wall serves as the backdrop for the insignia and represents the unit’s original location of Fort Totten, named after Brigadier General Joseph Totten who served as a Chief Engineer of the Army. Three rows of black cipher squares on the wall have a dual meaning: They allude to one of the unit’s mission (cryptologic services), and also represent the Command’s numerical designation (3,6, and 4 squares). Chevrons always serve as an emblem of support in heraldry, but in this insignia the color of the chevron recalls the State Flag of New York and is a reminder of the 364th’s authority to provide command and control functions when it was designated as a Support Group.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
