U.S. ARMY 368TH FINANCE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 368th Finance Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 15 June 1995. Its silver-gray and golden-yellow tones are the branch colors of the Finance Corps, allusions to the precious metals silver and gold that were used internationally used as money until the 1970s. But the colors also have significance in the heraldic world: gold denotes high achievement, while silver or white is a sign of purity of purpose and integrity. Black, another color commonly used in the heraldry of Finance units, reflect strength, solidity, and solvency.

In the chief (upper area of the shield), two castle towers signify the participation by the Battalion’s ancestral unit in a pair of World War II campaigns, Central Europe and Rhineland. The diamond shape below the shield is called a lozenge and has been adapted from the Finance Corps branch insignia as a reminder of the unit’s overarching mission.

“Tested Triad Qualified” is the Battalion motto.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam.  More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 368th Finance Battalion was originally constituted in the Army of the United States as the 102nd Finance Disbursing Section on 22 February 1944 and activated at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 1 March 1944. Inactivated in October 1945, it was redesignated as the 368th Finance Disbursing Section on 6 May 1947 and allotted into the Organized Reserves before being activated on 19 May 1946 at Wichita, Kansas.

It would not receive the designation of 368th Finance Battalion until its reorganization and redesignation on 16 September 1993 following a stint of active Federal military service. It was either inactivated or reorganized and redesignated at some point during the first decade of the 2000s. It is unclear which path it took, although there is currently a Finance Corps unit based in Wichita as part of the Army Reserve that has the same numerical designation, namely the 368th Financial Manage Support Unit, that could be descended from the Battalion's lineage.
