U.S. ARMY 377TH FIELD ARTILLERY REGIMENT, 2ND BATTALION BERET FLASH

Assigned to the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division since 2005, today's 2nd Battalion, 377th Field Artillery was originally constituted in the Organized Reserves as Battery B, 377th Field Artillery in the Organized Reserves as an element of the 101st Division (later 101st Airborne Division), on 24 June 1921.

It was redesignated as Battery B, Battery B, 377th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion on 15 August 1942 and fought under that designation during World War II, taking part in four campaigns and earning an Arrowhead device for two of them by taking part in assault landings. Its outstanding service during the D-Day landing and subsequent action during the Battle of the Bulge led to its selection for two Presidential Unit Citation, a French Croix de Guerre, a Netherlands Orange Lanyard, a Belgian Croix de Guerre 1940, and a Belgian Fourragere for two citations in the Order of the Day of the Belgian Army.

Over the next six decades, it would undergo sporadic redesignations and inactivations/reactivations but retaining its organization as a Battery until 16 November 2005 and its redesignation from Battery B, 377th Field Artillery Regiment to its current designation of 2nd Battalion, 377th Field Artillery Regiment, this nearly two years after being activated in December 2003 in Afghanistan.

The U.S. Army Center of Military History’s Lineage and Honors page for the Battalion has not been updated to reflect the Battalion’s official credit for participation in War on Terrorism campaigns despite several deployments to the Middle East. In November 2013, the Battalion was selected for a Meritorious Unit Commendation for it support of Regional Command-East Operation as part of Operation Enduring Freedom XI-XII between December 2011 and October 2012. And in 2020, the 2nd Battalion’s HQ and HQ Battery, along with its A and B Batteries, were honored with a Valorous Unit Award for extraordinary heroism against an armed enemy between February 2009 and February 2010, a period in which the combined units unleashed over 18,000 rounds artillery and killed a minimum of 190 enemies in fighting around Khost Province in Afghanistan.

The 377th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Battalion flash is worn on the maroon beret reserved for wear by personnel in Airborne-designated units. It is centered on the beret’s stiffener and serves as the backdrop for Battalion Officers’ nonsubdued insignia of rank; NCOs and Junior Enlisted Officers wear the 377th Field Artillery Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia, or unit, in the same fashion.

The flash is worn by all members of the unit, regardless of their individual Airborne or Airborne-related skills.
