U.S. ARMY 382ND SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Currently worn by personnel serving in the 382nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, the 382nd Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (AKA "unit crest" or "DUI") was approved with an effective recognition date of 17 September 2006.

The organization’s past service providing maintenance support for Transportation Equipment and Movement Control units is symbolized a wrench behind a wheel. One of the Battalion’s functions, Petroleum Support, is alluded to with a drop of oil on the wheel axis. The unit’s location in the Pacific Northwest is denoted by a Native American image of a tribal salmon.

The buff (gold) upon which the salmon and wrench rest is the color traditionally used by Support organizations, and the chevron is also a symbol of constant support. “Victory Through Sustainment” is the unit motto.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
