The 404th Support Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patch, was approved with an effective date of 16 October 2008. It was cancelled by Headquarters, Department of he Army on 21 February 2010, just 14 months after it had been approved.
The Red, white, and blue partitions on the insignia are modified from the Army Materiel Command Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and their use on this insignia carries with it the mission of support and ensuring materiel reaches shoulders when or before they need it. Partition lines form an inverted chevron, whose single tip represents the single point of entry to Army Materiel Command from the battlefield. An upright sword reflects the Brigade’s readiness and its full support to Soldiers.
Tasked with providing logistics support to all units in the Pacific Northwest and Far West, the Brigade’s area of responsibility is symbolized by a mountain in the white partition styled after Mount Rainer; it also alludes to the Brigade’s headquarters at Fort Lewis from which the famous peak can be seen. The lightning flash represents the Brigade’s primary tactical unit, the 25th Infantry Division, while the Big Dipper is a reference to unit stationed in Alaska.
