The 407th Army Field Support Brigade is based in Texas at Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood) and is tasked with the mission of providing and synchronizing sustainment of units from all three U.S. Army components—Active Duty, Reserve, and national Guard—as well as any joint forces with its AOR (Area of Responsibility). Aligned with U.S Southern Command and providing direct support for III Corps, the Brigade carries out its mission of through four Army Field Support Battalions, 13 Logistics Readiness Centers (formerly Directorates of Logistics), and numerous Logistics Support Teams.
Approved on 16 October 2007, the 407th Army Field Support Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patch, features a field divided into red, white, and blue partitions, with an upright sword superimposed over its center. The colors and partitions are inspired by the insignia of the Army Materiel Command; their inclusion on this insignia means the Brigade has inherited the Command’s mandate of supply and flow of materiel to the Soldier, realizing the truth of the motto "Supply Is Strength." The partition lines form a downward chevron, whose single point denotes that the Brigade is the only entry to Army Materiel Command from the Battlefield. A single star symbolizes the Lone Star state of Texas where the Brigade is headquartered and the North Star, traditional symbol of guidance and leadership.
The insignia was canceled by a G-1 Directive from the Headquarters, Department of the Army on 21 February 2010.
