Approved on 16 September 2007, the 409th Support Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, also called a unit patch, features the red, white, and blue color scheme of Army Materiel Command, the Brigade’s parent command, and carries with it the mission of logistical flow and materiel support to Warfighters. The gold border connotes excellence and high ideals. A flaming, upright sword is taken from the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia of U.S. Army Europe and symbolizes the Brigade’s mission to provide contingency contract support to all Support units in the European Theater of Operations. The sword’s scarlet grip recalls the shed blood of comrades who fell performing contingency contracting on the battlefield and elsewhere.
This insignia is no longer authorized for wear. It was cancelled by HQDA, G-1 directive on 21 February 2010.
