US Army 41 Infantry Brigade Oregon National Guard Unit Crest

The 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), often referred to as a unit crest, pays tribute to its home state of Oregon and the surrounding Western and Northwestern states that contributed many of the units that formed the Brigade’s predecessor, the 41st Infantry Division, and the nation as whole.

A red, white, and blue background symbolizes the readiness of the Brigade to respond to the call to arms whenever it occurs, while the setting sun which serves as a backdrop recalls the Brigade’s “Sunset” design found on the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, which itself was a nod to all the states in the Northwest United States that contributed troops. ("Sunset" is also the official nickname of the Brigade.) But it goes without saying that the first image that all eyes are drawn to on the 41st IBCT’s unit crest is a beaver, a prodigious worker that is also the state animal of Oregon.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
