U.S. ARMY 42ND REGIONAL SUPPORT GROUP UNIT CREST (DUI)

Approved on 11 June 2007, the 42nd Regional Support Group Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), commonly called a unit crest, is emblazoned top and bottom with the Group’s motto “With Support We Conquer.”

The focal point of the insignia is a portcullis, the gated entrance typically seen on castles that in heraldry is an allusion to protection and safety, especially in an emergency. Superimposed on the portcullis, a winged tomahawk represents the military duties that are part of the Group’s mission, with the wing indicating both swiftness to render support and the enhancement of the mind through training and dedication.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 42nd Regional Support Group was first organized in the New Jersey National Guard as the Supply Company, 1st Infantry on 22 February 1917. It was subsequently reorganized and redesiganted as Supply Company, 113th Infantry, an element of the 29th Division on 11 October. It was under this designation that the unit would credit for pariticpation two World War I campaigns before returning to the U.S. from Europe and being demobilized in May 1919 at Camp Dix, New Jersey. It would be reorganized and redesignated as the Service Company, 113th Infantry before deploying to the European Theater in World War II, where it took part in five campaigns (Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, Central Europe) before the war's end.

It would undergo several reorganizations and redesignations in the decades following World War II, first being designated as a Support unit in 1963 when it became Headquarters, Headquarters and Band, 50th Armored Division Support Command. In 2004, it would deploy to Iraq as the HQ and HQ Company, 42nd Division Support Command and subsequently be selected for a Meritorious Unit Commendation for its service between 2004 and 2005.

On 1 September 2006, it was finally reorganized and concurrently redesignated as a Support Goup, specifically the HQ and HQ Company, 42nd Support Group in the New Jersey, Massachusetts, and New York Army National Guard. It retained that designation a dozen years later when it was reorganized in the New Jersey, New York, and Vermont Army National Guard in 2018. As of Autumn 2023, the 42nd Regional Support Group is headquartered in Somerset and compromises two Combat Sustainment Support Battalions (119th and 117th) and the 50th Financial Management Support Unit. The CSSBs consist of Transportation, Military Police, Quartermaster, and Chemical Corps companies, while the 50th FMSU has two Finance Detachments.
