Activated in 2006 through the redesignation of the 42nd Division Support Command, the 42nd Regional Support Groups is largest and primary sustainment organization in the New Jersey Army National Guard. Its two Combat Sustainment Support Battalions, Financial Management Support Unit, and Headquarters company comprise more than 1200 Soldiers, all dedicated to the unit motto “With Support We Conquer.”
Army branches represented in the three battalions including Transportation, Chemical Corps, Quartermaster, Military Police, and Finance. Available at any time to be called into service for overseas missions to support our National Defense, the Group is currently under state control and serves the state’s expert on all logistical matters.
The 42nd Regional Support Group unit patch, officially called a Shoulder Sleeve Insignia-Former Wartime Service insignia, was approved for wear in 2007; the color version of the patch forms the basis for the Group’s Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB). A rainbow of red, yellow, and blue at the top of the patch is a reference to the unit’s past history with the 42nd Infantry Division, nicknamed the Rainbow Division, while the upraised tomahawk is an allusion to the Groups military responsibilities. Wings are a symbol of the Group’s swift response when support is needed, and also symbolize the enhancement of the mind.
