Officially designated as background trimming, ovals are underneath authorized Parachutist and Air Assault badges on the Army Service/Dress uniform coat, Service uniform shirt, and the Maternity Tunic. Badges are centered on the oval, but the Master and Senior Parachutist badges are positioned so that the star (or wreathed star) is slightly above the top of the oval. The badge-oval combination is considered a single item when calculating placement, and if the lapel coat obscures the badge, the badge-oval may be moved so that the left edge of the oval is aligned with left edge or ribbons or medals.
