The 518th Sustainment Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patch, was approved on 16 September 2010—the same day the unit was stood up for service. Its buff and scarlet tones are the colors long associated with U.S. Army Sustainment units, and a bull was selected for the insignia because of its reputation as a not only a powerful animal, but also a very determined one when it feels threatened. Simply put, bulls do not back down when threatened, and that tenacity underscores the Brigade’s motto of “Sustain The Attack.”
An Army Reserve unit subordinate to the 143rd Sustainment Command, the 518th Sustainment Brigade is based in Knightdale, North Carolina. In addition to its Headquarters and Headquarters Company, the Brigade exercises command and control of the 812th Transportation Battalion and any other attached or assigned units.
