The 528th Sustainment Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patch, was approved on 25 March 2009. Its background of red and dark green alludes to the Brigade’s support to Special Operations units, with the two lightning bolts signifies not only signal elements, combat support, and combat service support, but also the speed at which these are provided. Golden yellow in the lightning bolts represents the high quality and value of the Soldiers chosen to serve in the Brigade, with the parachutes denoting that all members of the unit are Airborne qualified. The black dagger indicates the unit’s combat readiness; its design (Fairbairn-Sykes) reveals the unit’s association with the United States Special Operations Command.
On 5 April 2017, the members of the 528th Sustainment Brigade (Special Operations) (Airborne) removed the subdued version of this Shoulder Sleeve Insignia from their Army Combat Uniforms and replaced it with the 1st Special Forces Command patch. This was done as part of a change that require personnel to wear the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia of their superior commanding units.
