The 620th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion is a United States Army Reserve unit assigned to the 89th Sustainment Brigade, 451st Expeditionary Sustainment Command, a component of the Reserve’s 79th Theater Sustainment Command. As of Autumn 2023, the Battalion is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, and in addition to its Headquarters and Headquarters Company comprises two Companies based in St. Charles, Missouri and four Detachments (two apiece in St. Louis and St. Charles).
Originally designated as the 520th Maintenance Battalion, the unit was redesignated as the 620th Support Battalion in 1995. It was called into active military service in 2004 and subsequently was deployed to Iraq where it served in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from November of that year until September 2005. In November 2007, its outstanding service during that period was recognized when it was selected to receive a Meritorious Unit Commendation.

Worn today by the personnel of the 620th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, the 620th Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia—a device also known as a DUI or unit crest—was originally approved back when the unit was the 520th Maintenance Battalion and the Army was promoting the concept of COSTAR, or Combat Service to The Army. This is reflected in the use of an eight-pointed star consisting of a five-pointed star (for COSTAR’s five main services, Supply, Ordnance, Transportation, Medical, and Military Police services) and a three-pointed star denoting the three main functions of the unit as a Maintenance Battalion (direct support maintenance, maintenance supply, and evacuation support).
The blue background symbolizes faithful service (“true blue”), and the arch is a reference to the St. Louis area as the source of many of the organization’s original personnel. SERVITIUM CUM COR, the unit motto, is a Latin phrase that translates in English as “Service With Courage.”
You can find guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
