U.S. ARMY 644TH SUPPORT GROUP UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Now worn by members of the 644th Regional Support Group, the 644th Support Group Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved for wear on 31 October 2000.

The Group’s status as a Support organization is indicated by the blue chevron, a longtime heraldic symbol of support. “Northern Star,” the unit motto, is echoed by the placement of a mullet (star) on the topmost part of a stylized fleure-de-lis that simulates a compass needle pointing north; the fleur-de-lis is also a nod to the unit’s former association with the 88th Regional Support Command (now the 88th Readiness Division) as it recalls the fleur-de-lis on that unit’s DUI.

Dark blue is used to suggest the firmament in which the North Star is seen, while the silver of the fleur-de-lis and trim on the chevron is for integrity and high ideals. And the scarlet used for the background of the unit motto is the color of courage and sacrifice.

Originally known as the 644th Support Group, the unit was redesignated as the 644th Area Support Group while it was a part of the 88th Regional Support Command. As of March 2021, the 644th Regional Support Group is a subordinate unit of the 103rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command, 79th Theater Sustainment Command, United States Army Reserve.

The 644th Regional Support Group is headquartered at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.
