This the 777th Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, a device also referred to as a unit crest or DUI. There is no information regarding this insignia’s origin or symbolism available at The Institute of Heraldry, and the unit’s history and lineage is not listed at the U.S. Army Center of Military History.
In the center of the insignia is a red chevron, longtime heraldic symbol for support. The shield with a gridlined globe between two aviation wings denotes the organization’s status as an Aviation unit, the 777th Aviation Support Battalion, with the capability for worldwide deployment. The blue background for the shield is an allusion to the unit’s ultimate theater of operation, the sky, and is also a reference to the Arkansas state flag. “Support Freedom” is the unit motto.
The Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
