The 824th Quartermaster Company beret flash (also called an organizational flash) and Airborne background trimming, or “oval,” were both approved for wear on 23 July 1984.
The flash is worn on centered on the maroon beret authorized for wear by members of Airborne units in lieu of the standard black beret, with Officers (save Chaplains) wearing nonsubdued insignia of grade centered on the flash and all Enlisted personnel wearing their Distinctive Unit Insignia (or Regimental Distinctive Insignia if their organization has not been authorized a DUI).
Ovals are called Airborne background trimming because they are only worn by personnel who meet two criteria: they serve in an Airborne organization and have been awarded a Parachutist or Air Assault badge. Not considering the wreath and/or star found on some Parachutist badges, the badge is centered on top of the oval and the combination is placed on the AGSU coat, the ASU coat (including when worn as the ASU Dress variant), Class B ASU shirt, and the green or blue Army Maternity Tunic.
The 824th Quartermaster Company is an Army Reserve unit. As of 2021, it is a component of the 275th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 518th Sustainment Brigade, 143rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), a major subordinate command of the 377th Theater Sustainment Command. The 824th Quartermaster Company is based at Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg) in North Carolina.
