Formerly known as the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia-Former Wartime Service insignia, or SSI-FWTS, the unit patch for the 916th Support Brigade is now officially called the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia-Military Operations in Hostile Conditions, or SSI-MOHC.
The colored version of this patch is currently worn on the left shoulder of the AGSU if the wearer us currently assigned to the Brigade, and on the right shoulder if the wearer had previously served in the Brigade. (Until 2015, the colored version was also worn on the “old” Army Green Service Uniform.) Monochrome or subdued versions are also available for the UCP and OCP versions of the Army Combat Uniform; use the selection box to the right to choose the one you need, making sure you have the right selection before adding it to your shopping cart.
Approved for wear on 30 March 2009, the 916th Support Brigade SSI prominently features scarlet and buff (gold), the colors traditionally associated with Support units. Its mission of support and the rotational processing of Aviation personnel are symbolized the mill-rind, a centuries-old symbol of support inspired by the iron support between two heavy millstones to grind grain. A point-down sword denotes military readiness and the support of combat operations in the War on Terrorism, while the gold pheon in the blue rectangle is an emblem of fast, decision action in the fight against global terrorism.
The unit motto, SUSTINEO COACTUM, is Latin for “Support The Force.” It is displayed prominently on the 916th Support Brigade Unit Crest (DUI).
