The 916th Support Brigade Distinctive Unit Insignia, also called a unit crest of a DUI, was approved on 30 March 2009. In lieu of what would typically be a shield we see a blue, grid-lined globe that is an emblem of the world-class, multinational support that is contracted to the National Training Center’s customers, government agencies, and civil organizations.
A yellow millrind (it looks like a pair of the letter “C” placed back to back) signifies support for the War on Terrorism missions. In the center of the insignia, a scarlet pheon (arrow) placed on a billet (rectangle) is an allusion to Army support for the mission of providing sustainment operations that serve rotational units. Scarlet is for the Support branch, while gold found throughout the insignia is for excellence. SUSTINEO COACTUM, the unit motto, is Latin for “Sustain The Force.”
Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been
authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Morel guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e),
"Beret" and
"Garrison Cap," respectively.
