U.S. ARMY 95TH CIVIL AFFAIRS BRIGADE BERET FLASH AND/OR OVAL

Officially designated Airborne background trimming, the oval (Airborne background trimming) and organizational flash worn by the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment were both approved on 20 March 2006, two-and-a-half months before the unit’s sixty-plus years of inactivation was ended when it was activated on 6 June 2006 in Schweinfurt, Germany. It had been originally constituted as the 1st Armored Cavalry Troop in 1928, but during World War II it was redesignated as the 91st Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, earning battle honors for six campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. It was also chosen as a recipient of the French Croix de Guerre with Palm.

Almost a year after being reactivated, the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in May 2007, the first of three deployments to Afghanistan for the Squadron. Following its first tour in Afghanistan, the Squadron’s outstanding performance was recognized nearly a dozen years later with a Meritorious Unit Commendation, while Troop A was individually tapped for a Valorous Unit Award in 2013. The Squadron would earn a second Meritorious Unit Commendation following its deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom X between December 2009 and November 2010.

Since 2014, the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry (1-91 CAV) has deployed numerous times to locations in Eastern Europe in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve, although it also deployed as far west as Portugal and as far north as Norway between 2016-2017.

As of September 2021, the 1-91 CAV is headquartered at Tower Barracks in Grafenwöhr, Germany.
