When wearing the Blue Mess or White Mess jacket, Captains wear their rank insignia on the sleeves, centered in the area bounded by the two lower curves of the trefoil knot and the sleeve braid. Please choose the appropriate backing fabric color (blue or white) for your insignia in the drop-down selection box to the right.
At The Salute Uniforms, we offer two options for attaching the embroidered bullion insignia to these dress uniform jackets. One is to sew the insignia, which has a tiny border boundary of blue or white fabric, directly onto the sleeve of the uniform. This traditional method is obviously the most secure, but it also entails the expense of a tailor or seamstress attaching the insignia and, should a promotion appear on the horizon, removing and replacing it with a new one.
The second option uses insignia that have two pins on the reverse side that go through the jacket sleeve and are held in place with a clutch or clutch-back system similar to what’s found on lapel pins and other types of jewelry. Though not as foolproof as the sew-on method, we’ve had excellent customer feedback indicating the clutch mechanism holds the insignia firmly in place. It also goes without saying that this system almost makes things considerably easier when it comes time to replace your Captain’s bars with the gold oak leaves of a Major.
