The chevrons, or nonsubdued sew-on grade insignia, worn by Master Sergeants (E-8) are required by Army regulations to be manufactured in two sizes, Large and Small, featuring golden-colored chevrons embroidered on a blue or white background or chevrons embroidered in Heritage Tan on a Heritage Green backing. Master Sergeant insignia embroidered on white background are sewn onto both sleeves of the White Mess jacket; the blue background insignia is designed to match the colors of the Army Service / Dress Uniform and the Blue Mess jacket; and the Heritage Tan chevrons on a Heritage Green background are for the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) Coat and shirts (both short- and long-sleeves). Master Sergeant (E-8) Chevrons are sewn halfway between the shoulder seam and the elbow on coats and shirts.
You’ll no doubt notice that we also offer a third color option, Green, in the Fabric selection box to the right; this is to order chevrons for the discontinued Class A/B Army Green Uniform. Here at The Salute Uniforms, we continue to receive many requests from veterans—as well as from uniform collectors, historical re-enactors, and TV and movie production companies—not only for the old Army Green Uniform and/or itsprimary components (coat and trousers), but also for insignia to wear on them. To meet this need, we continue to manufacture these items using Mil-Spec materials and following official Army patterns. Just be sure not to select the "Green" fabric background if you're actually seeking insignia for the new AGSU!
