The 103rd Field Artillery Brigade Combat Service ID Badge, or CSIB, is taken from the color version of the Brigade’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, which was approved on 12 December 1984. Combat Service ID Badges are worn only on the right side of service and dress uniforms, and Soldiers authorized to wear more than one CSIB may wear only one of them at a time. Regulations permit Soldiers to move lower-precedence ID badges normally worn on the right side over to the left so that the CSIB may be worn alone to give it more prominence.
As a command unit in the Rhode Island National Guard, the 103rd Field Artillery has control over 1st Battalion, 103rd Field Artillery Regiment and the Battalion’s trio of firing batteries. 1st Battalion is armed with a dozen M777A2 155mm howitzers (non-self-propelled). Additionally, Battalion personnel also possess a variety of career functions ranging from fire-control specialists and cannon crew to logisticians, medics, and communications. It can also assist in mass decontamination in response to a chemical, biological, or nuclear event.
The Brigade’s HQ and its Alpha Battery are located in Providence, Bravo Battery is in North Smithfield, and Charlie Battery is in Bristol.
