The 163rd Armored Brigade Combat Service ID Badge is a metal facsimile of the colored version of the Brigade’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, also called an SSI or nit patch; use the
link below to learn about the symbolism of the insignia and when it was approved for wear. You may also wish to view our page showcasing the
163rd Armored Brigade Distinctive Unit Insignia, frequently called a unit crest.
Combat Service ID Badges (CSIB) were introduced at the same time as the current Army Service Uniform (ASU) and are intended to replace the colored version of the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia-Former Wartime Service insignia that was worn on the discontinued Army Green Uniform; the insignia was reauthorized with the introduction of the Army Green Service Uniform in November 2018.
Soldiers who are authorized more than one CSIB may wear only one at a time. Unlike other medals and badges, the wear of a full-size CSIB with the Mess or Evening Mess uniforms is permitted even if other decorations are miniature.
Complete guidance on the wear of CSIBs can be found in
Chapter 22, Section 17(e) of Department of the Army Pamphlet 670-1.
