The 164th Air Defense Artillery Brigade Combat Service ID Badge, or CSIB, is based upon the color version of the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia—Former Wartime Service Insignia (SSI—FWTS), an insignia was that was redesignated as SSI—MOHC in the January 2021 edition of DA PAM 670-1. The Brigade's SSI was approved for wear by Detachment 1, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command on 1 October 1988, but was reassigned to the 164th ADA Brigade following its activation in the Florida Army National Guard 2004.
Headquartered at Orlando, Florida, one of the 164th ADA Brigade’s primary missions is to support the Homeland Defense mission by commanding multi-component task forces tasked with securing the airspace of the National Capital Region, which comprises all of Washington, D.C., six counties in Maryland and Virginia, and five independent cities in Virginia. The Brigade’s HQ also took part in a theater-level exercise called Yama Sakura 71 in 2016 on Kyushu, Japan with the goals of enhancing U.S. and Japanese combat readiness and demonstrating U.S. security interests in the resion.
As a Florida National Guard unit, the 164th ADA Brigade stands ready to provide assistance during disasters and emergences. In the wake of Hurricane Matthew in 2016, the entire Brigade was called out to staff shelters, distribute bottled water and Meals Ready to Eat, hand out sheltering tarps, and conduct security missions. Similarly, the whole Brigade was activated in response to Hurricane Irma and carried out missions in 27 counties over a roughly two-week period.
