The CSIB, or Combat Service Identification Badge, for the 16th Military Police Brigade is based on its shoulder sleeve insignia. The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved for the 16th Military Police Brigade on July 16, 1981, when the unit was formed from the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 16th Military Police Group. It was amended to add the Airborne Tab on February 23, 1982. It was amended to delete the airborne tab effective October 16, 2008.
The 16th Military Police Group was activated at Fort George G. Meade in May 1966. Deployed to Vietnam shortly afterward, it was responsible for control of Military Police units and activities in I and II Corps Tactical Zones. The group earned official credit for participation in thirteen of the conflict’s seventeen named campaigns and was awarded two Meritorious Unit Commendations for service between 1966 and 1969 and a Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm (inscribed 1966 – 1971). It was reorganized and redesignated as HQ and HQ Company, 16th Military Police Brigade on 16 July 1981.
