As a Nevada National Guard unit, the CSIB (Combat Service ID Badge) for the 17th Sustainment Brigade—an almost identical copy of its Shoulder Sleeve Insignia approved on 1 September 2011—understandably reflects its close ties to the Silver State. A cobalt blue background is employed because it is the state color of Nevada. The CSIB’s focal point, a silver representation of a ram’s skull, is borrowed from the state flag; its color emphasizes the role that silver played in the forming and development of the state. Similarly, the star is also taken from the state flag, and is colored white to allude to the snow found on the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Currently, the 17th Sustainment Brigade is responsible for command and control logistics battalions and human resource and facilities management companies. When ordered, it conducts theater distribution services, facilitates theater distribution processes, acts to support redeployments, and provides support to a variety of forces including joint, interagency, multinational, and also assists and supports civilian agencies.
The unit’s motto, “Victory Through Endurance,” is emblazoned on its unit crest, officially known as a Distinctive Unit Insignia.
