The CSIB (Combat Service Identification Badge) of the 18th Field Artillery Brigade is based on the unit’s shoulder sleeve insignia, which was originally approved for the 18th Field Artillery Brigade in May, 1979. The shoulder sleeve insignia for that unit was amended on October 21, 1992, with the addition of an “AIRBORNE” tab (this in turn necessitated changes in measurements and official descriptions); the color of the “AIRBORNE” tab was subsequently changed in 2003.
Three months prior to the brigade’s reorganization and redesignation as the 18th Fires Brigade in June, 2007, the shoulder sleeve insignia was redesigned for the newly desginated unit, and the “AIRBORNE” tab was deleted from the design. As a result, it was also removed from the CSIB.
According to the official Web page for Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg), where the 18th Fires Brigade is stationed, "the 18th Fires Brigade reorganized and redesignated back to the 18th Field Artillery Brigade on October 16, 2014, a XVIII Airborne Corps asset providing long range precision fires support to all divisions of the XVIII Airborne Corps."
The currently available (March 2016) CSIB for the 18th Field Artillery Brigade, as authorized per The Institute of Heraldry and which does not feature the “AIRBORNE” tab seen on this product, can be
ordered on this page, which also features a synopsis of the unit’s history.
