The 212th Field Artillery Brigade Combat Service Identification Badge, or CSIB for short, is a metal badge featuring the color version of the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia that was approved on 28 July 1981. Scarlet and yellow, colors traditionally associated with Field Artillery units, are used almost exclusively in this insignia, with the only exception being two black arrows that symbolize artillery fire.
The Brigade’s numerical designation can be seen by examining closely the different components it contains. The crescents (also called decrescents) have the appearance of the letter “c,” commonly recognized as the symbol in Roman numerology for 100. Diagonal lines form an “X,” which is even more familiarly known as the Roman numeral for ten. Lastly, the two upright arrows can be seen as “II,” Roman numeral for 2. Taken together, the symbols say 100, 100, 10, and 2, thus 212.
