The Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB) of the 263rd Army Air and Missile Command of the South Carolina Army National Guard is a metal, pin-on facsimile of the Command’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia that was originally approved in 1991. It employs Air Defense Artillery branch colors of scarlet and yellow and is charged with a crossed cannon and missile superimposed on a blue palmetto tree in which is nested a crescent moon. The ordnance imagery is adapted from the Air Defense Artillery branch insignia, while the palmetto and crescent are taken from the South Carolina state flag. (Note: The unit motto, "Duty Honor Excellence," is found only on the Command's Distinctive Unit Insignia, or unit crest.)
Fifth in precedence of ID badges, the CSIB is worn on the right side of the Army Service and Mess/Evening Mess uniforms. Special exceptions to uniform regulations have been made to recognize the importance of the CSIB. For example, while rules call for the wear of miniature ID badges on Mess and Evening Mess uniform jackets, the normal size CSIB is permitted because at this time there are no miniature versions manufactured. Soldiers may also move any ID badge of lower precedence normally worn on the right side over to the left so that the CSIB may have more prominence. While Soldiers may be authorized more than one CSIB, only one may be worn at any given time.
Full guidance on positioning and orientation of the CSIB is found in Section 22-17, "Identification Badges," of the January 2021 edition of Department of the Army Pamphlet 670-1 (
pp. 331 through
333).
