U.S. ARMY 316TH CAVALRY BRIGADE COMBAT SERVICE ID BADGE (CSIB)

The design of the 316th Cavalry Brigade Combat Service ID Badge is taken from the color version of the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia that was approved for the Brigade in November 2008. This insignia points to the Brigade’s lineage that began with the constitution and activation of its forebear, the 8th Tank Destroyer Group, in 1942. Eight black stars stand for the numerical designation of the Group, which took part in four campaigns in Europe during World War II. (The unit motto of PERDITOR-ORIS, Latin for “Destroyer,” also recalls this heritage and is found on the Brigade’s unit crest.)

The unit did not receive its current designation as a Brigade until the 316th Armor Group—inactivated since 1959—was redesignated as the 316th Cavalry Brigade in 2007 and the newly designated unit transferred to the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC). After its Headquarters was activated in August 2007 and its Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and Distinctive Unit Insignia were approved in November 2008, the Brigade was made complete when the 316th Cavalry Regiment was redesignated as the 316th Cavalry Brigade.

Since assignment to TRADOC, the 316th Cavalry Brigade trains provides Professional Education for Armor, Cavalry, and Maneuver Officers and Noncommissioned Officers. Based at Fort Moore at the Army Maneuver Center of Excellence, the Brigade conducts nine Armor courses and trains over 1400 students a year (Fort Moore was known as Fort Benning before October 2023). Its expertise in this task was recognized when its Headquarters unit was honored with the Army Superior Unit Award for its work between June 2010 and June 2011.
