Based upon the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (unit patch) originally approved on 17 November 1954 for the 316th Logistical Command, the 316th Sustainment Command Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB) features blue-and-red compass rose charged with a white fleur-de-lis on a white disc with a red border. The compass rose denotes the Command’s ability to provide its Quartermaster, Transport, and Supply capabilities at any point necessary. Historically used for the North point on a compass, the fleur-de-lis represents the Iris, the state flower of the Command’s origin state of Tennessee.
Constituted as the 316th Logistical Command in the Organized Reserves (which became the Army Reserve in 1952) on 17 November 1950 and subsequently activated at Knoxville, Tennessee on 1 December 1950, the 316th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) exercises command and control over more than 10,000 Army Reserve Soldiers as the peacetime subordinate of the 377th Theater Sustainment Command.
It is headquartered at Coraopolis, Pennsylvania and as of 2019 has four subordinate units located in Northeastern states under its control: the 77th Sustainment Brigade in New York, 301st Regional Support Group and 475th Quartermaster Group in Pennsylvania, and the 655th Regional Support Group in Massachusetts. It is also referred to by the shorter designation 316th ESC. The unit motto, "Sustain The Victory," can be found on its Distinctive Unit Insignia, or unit crest.
