U.S. ARMY 35TH AIR DEFENSE ARTILLERY BRIGADE COMBAT SERVICE ID BADGE (CSIB)

From the cratered No Man's Land of World War I to the desperate and unrelenting combat on the beaches of Salerno and Normandy during World War II, the 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade (ADAB) has earned a reputation for defending troops on the move. It is a characteristic it continued to display in its modern-day incarnation during action in the Persian Gulf during the Gulf War of 1990-1991 and since 2007 when it was deployed to South Korea to provide support for Eight United States Army / United States Forces Korea. In 2010. its outstanding meritorious service between 2007 and 2009 was honored with an Army Superior Unit Award.

The 35th Defense Artillery Brigade was originally activated during June 1918 as Coast Defense of the Potomac. Based at Fort Hunt (Virginia), the 35th Coast Artillery Brigade arrived in France for the final months of World War I, participating in the Meuse-Argonne campaign.

Following World War II, the unit was deactivated at Camp Kilmer (New Jersey) during 1945 and reformed at Fort Bliss (Texas) during November 1948. Nine years later, it was selected to be the first Nike Ajax guided missile command, assigned to protect the nation's capitol.

Based at Osan, South Korea and nicknamed “Dragon Brigade,” the 35th Air and Missile Defense Brigade is tasked with the conduct of "joint and combined theater air and missile defense operations of defended asset list priorities in order to protect key assets, preserve sortie generation capabilities, build combat power, and provide freedom of action to enable Combined Forces Command/U.S. Forces Korea campaign objectives.”

The Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB) features the colors of Air Defense Artillery (scarlet and gold) and three mountain peaks blending into an arrow directed upward to symbolize a missile hitting an enemy aircraft.
