A component unit of the XVIII Airborne Corps, the 35th Signal Brigade is based at Fort Eisenhower (formerly Fort Gordon) in Georgia and comprises four Signal Battalions: the 63rd and 67th are also located at Fort Gordon (redesignated Fort Eisenhower on 27 Octobwe 2023, while the 50th is based at Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg) and the 51st is at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
The Brigade was originally constituted as the 931st Signal Battalion and activated at Esler Field, Louisiana on 11 January 1943. Reorganized and redesignated as a Separate Battalion for six months, the unit was redesignated and its original name in June 1944. In all, the Battalion earned credit for participation in three official campaigns (Central Burma, India-Burma, and China Offensive) and was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation.
Inactivated for more than two decades following the Japanese surrender, the Battalion was redesignated as HQ and HQ Company, 35th Signal Group on 28 March 1967, allotted to the Regular Army, and activated at Fort Bragg a month later. It was during this time the unit earned Airborne status, and it was as an Airborne unit that the 35th Signal Brigade (it was redesignated a Brigade from Group in 1979) that the unit earned three more Meritorious Unit Commendations (Southwest Asia1990-1991, Central Asia 2002-2003, and Iraq 2004-2005) and credit for taking part in two of the three Campaigns during the First Gulf War.
On April 13, 2007, the Brigade carried outs its last Airborne operation, and ten days later the unit’s colors were cased and the Brigade was redesignated as the 35th Signal Brigade (Theater Tactical).
