The Combat Service ID Badge of the 364th Civil Affairs Brigade is based upon the Brigade’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia that was approved on 21 December 1976. It features a sword and scroll taken from the Civil Affairs branch insignia, but unlike the branch insignia the two elements are not crossed and its scroll is open rather than closed.
In Civil Affairs insignia, scrolls typically symbolize the rule of law and the much-needed order it brings during conflict and especially in post-combat operations. The upright sword reflects Brigade’s support for military operations to enable civil order to established and maintained.
The green charge in the center appears to be an arrow at first glance, but instead it is a stylized version of a fir tree, one of the most common evergreen trees found in the Brigade’s home state of Oregon.
